The Harrah College of Hospitality received a $1 million gift from entrepreneur and alumnus Marco Benvenuti to establish the Marco Benvenuti Excellence Endowment. The endowment will support student travel, professional development, and special projects to complement coursework and enhance student retention and success.

The Sands Center for Professional Development in the Harrah College of Hospitality brought in Historically Black College and University students from across the country as well as French students from L'Institut Lyfe for hospitality management education, tours, and project work. They will receive a deep introduction to the travel, tourism and leisure industry and its wide range of professional positions to inspire them to consider one of the world’s fastest-growing and largest employment fields.

Over 900 high school seniors graduated in 2024 with college credit and a taste of the college experience — all at an affordable price, thanks to 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's Rebel College Accelerator program, which enables students to complete high school and college credits simultaneously. Many students who participate in 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ early college coursework plan on continuing their education as full-time 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ students and benefit from the familiarity they gained with the campus community and university resources.

The Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering is building a successful community of engineering leaders, with four of its graduate programs earning top 100 spots on U.S. News and World Report's list of Best Graduate Colleges. The programs include: nuclear engineering (28), aerospace studies (68), environmental engineering (77), and civil engineering (97).

Gemma Lagasca, a first-generation Filipino American student from the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine, joined the Raiders Diversity in Sports Medicine Pipeline Initiative. The initiative aims to diversify the pipeline of students interested in sports medicine careers while also diversifying NFL club medical staffs across the league, creating more opportunities among different backgrounds within the world of sports medicine.

51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ junior Alejandro Rios was selected as one of 75 American fellows for the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals (CBYX), a nationally competitive fellowship in which American and German students travel to each other’s countries for a year of study, work, and cultural immersion. Rios aims to achieve his career goal of working in immigrant and refugee aid and advocacy.

51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Nursing continued to hold a strong position at the top of the U.S. News & World Report rankings. The college’s traditional master’s and doctoral programs were ranked in the top 100 in 2024, and online programs — which offer generalist and specialty master’s tracks in nurse educator preparation, family nurse practitioner, nurse midwifery, and psychiatric mental health — have ranked within the top 30 each year since the publication began rating online nursing programs in 2012.

Russell T. Hurlburt at the 2024 Distinguished Nevadan Luncheon

Psychology professor Russell T. Hurlburt received the Distinguished Nevadan Award for his innovative investigation techniques in higher education and scientific research. The Distinguished Nevadan award, the most prestigious award conferred by the Board of Regents, is given to individuals who have made significant achievements that have contributed to the cultural, economic, scientific, or social advancement of Nevada.
