Research Infrastructure and Safety oversees the machine shop located in the Science and Engineering Building (SEB) and provides manufacturing and engineering services to researchers across campus with an emphasis in high quality standards and the ability to manufacture difficult and tight tolerance one-off and prototype parts.

Ashton Pearson, the new machine shop manager, has been working diligently to refurbish and restore many tools and machines to operational condition, such as the CNC Mill and Lathe. The waterjet is currently being restored and is expected to be operational shortly after the start of the fall semester.

The shop has also recently acquired a new state the art desktop 3D printer to help with prototyping and produce ready to use parts for use in many projects. There are more modernization and shop improvements to come as we begin to update equipment and increase capability to better serve the increasingly innovative research at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ.

The machine shop is a full-service solution to solve problems and turn an idea into reality using innovative design and engineering practices.

Available equipment and services include:

  • Computer Aided Design
  • General fabrication including welding and sheet metal
  • Computer controlled mill and lathe
  • Manual mill and lathe
  • 3D printing in a wide variety of materials Including carbon fiber filled nylon and polycarbonate
  • Waterjet cutting
  • Surface and cylindrical grinding
  • Precision metrology equipment

Please reach out to Ashton Pearson to discuss any projects you need manufactured or designed at ashton.pearson@unlv.edu, or 702.774.1423.
