I am happy to announce Irma Corral, PhD, has been appointed to serve as associate dean of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) for the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ. Dr. Corral first joined the school of medicine as assistant dean of DEI in January 2023 and has been serving as the interim associate dean of DEI since April of 2024.

After obtaining her bachelor’s degree in psychology from 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ, Dr. Corral completed a master of science degree in psychology and a master of public health degree with a specialization in health promotion from San Diego State University (SDSU). Afterwards, she earned a PhD in clinical psychology from SDSU and the University of California, San Diego’s joint doctoral program. Following her clinical internship at the Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Healthcare System, she completed her postdoctoral clinical training at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.

Dr. Corral is a former division chief for behavioral medicine at an academic medical center and has a career long history of contributions to biomedical pipeline programs, DEI initiatives, and health equity work. Since her arrival at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine, Dr. Corral has worked on initiatives to improve DEI content integration with faculty affairs and human resources, has increased training opportunities related to DEI content for both undergraduate medical education (UME) and graduate medical education (GME) audiences, has collaborated as both a guest and a host of The Academy podcast series, and is helping to support 16 student identity/diversity organizations.

Dr. Corral’s professional interests include faculty development, learning environment management, medical Spanish programs for future healthcare workers, and mentoring of first-generation students in psychology and medicine.
