Denisse Franco, Mechanical Engineering (Nuclear Track) PhD Student

Denisse Franco is a second-year Ph.D. student in the Mechanical Engineering program (Nuclear Engineering track) at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ. She joined NSSTC in 2023 and works under the guidance of Dr. Alex Barzilov. Areas of her research encompass the analysis of multi-mode scintillation detectors and their applications for nuclear security. Previously, Denisse was an intern in the Department of Energy's Office of Nuclear Energy and a STEM mentor for an 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ program funded by the National Science Foundation. Other accomplishments include her selection to participate in a summer program in Advanced Manufacturing for Nonproliferation at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Georgia Institute of Technology.Through the NSSTC, Denisse is taking part in a summer program at the Nevada National Security Sites in which she continues her collaboration regarding the analysis of radiation detectors.
