Interior Architecture and Design

The internationally recognized interior architecture and design bachelor’s program provides a high-quality, individualized professional education that is responsive to current and projected modes of professional practice. The professional development of the students is further enhanced by the program's unique relationship to the extraordinary industrial and artistic development of the city of Las Vegas, which provides opportunities to engage in innovative and creative design projects. Our graduates are well prepared to pursue advanced studies or to make a seamless transition into the profession and advance to positions of increased responsibility and achievement of professional licensure.

Many of the increasingly complex needs of a population diverse in age, abilities, and cultural backgrounds can be creatively addressed through innovative design. Graduates of the program successfully engage in the practice of providing professional interior architectural and design services in various contexts of residential, commercial, health care, and institutional design.

Accreditation

The Council for Interior Design Accreditation formally granted full accreditation status to the program under its 2014 professional standards. The Accreditation Commission’s decision was based on the interior design program’s demonstrated achievement of 16 accreditation standards, which are evaluated within the context and overarching purpose and intent of the program. CIDA accreditation standards broadly address the evolving components of the educational preparation for interior design practice, including:

  • Critical thinking, professional values, and processes that provide the framework of interior design practice.
  • Core design and technical knowledge that provide the historical, theoretical, and technical contents of interior design practice.

The accreditation report, citing numerous program strengths, stated: “The interior architecture and design program at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas is successful in delivering a professional-level education that prepares students for entry into the design profession. The energy and commitment of faculty and the support of the administration is strong.”

The CIDA-accredited program prepares students for entry-level interior design practice, for advanced study, and to apply for membership in professional interior design organizations. The Bachelor of Science inn Interior Architecture granted by the University of Nevada Las Vegas meets the educational requirement for eligibility to sit for the National Council for Interior Design Qualification Examination (NCIDQ Exam). The University of Nevada Las Vegas Interior Architecture and Design degree, resulting in a Bachelor of Science degree, is a full-time (15 credit) hybrid (mixture of on-ground, online, and web-live) program that is typically completed in four years.

Student Attrition and Retention

In the fall of 2022, (164) students applied for entry into the Interior Architecture and Design program, and (129) students were admitted into the program. (58) of these applicants enrolled, and (42) were in the First Time Full Time 2022 Cohort. (26) students returned in the fall of 2023, putting attrition at 38.1%.

For 2022-2023, there were a total of (171) students declared as Interior Architecture and Design majors. (13) Students graduated from the Interior Architecture and Design program in 2023. Of these students, (5) completed the degree in four years.
