For someone who began his life in the unassuming Nevada mining town of Pioche, Kevin T. Orrock has succeeded many times over when it comes to Southern Nevada business. He grew up in Northern California before relocating with his family to Pittsburgh, Penn., during junior high school. After graduating from Wittenburg University in Springfield, Ohio, he returned to Nevada—this time to Las Vegas and a finance career with the Summa Corporation, which eventually would become The Howard Hughes Corp.
Not one to waste time or educational opportunities, Orrock soon enrolled in 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ, earning an MBA in 1976. That first job in the Desert Inn Hotel’s accounting department led him to positions with ever-increasing responsibilities before finally landing at what might be called his destiny, president of Summerlin and vice president of Master Planned Communities for The Howard Hughes Corp. Orrock’s expertise and leadership in financial operations and land development activities have made Summerlin one of the country’s standard-setting and most successful master-planned communities since its first residents arrived in 1991.
Last fall, under Orrock’s direction, Summerlin debuted the latest shopping endeavor in Southern Nevada, Downtown Summerlin. If the community and Orrock’s previous achievements are any indication, this long-awaited, integrated outdoor shopping area will deliver exactly the new business opportunities that the west side of the Las Vegas valley has deserved for years.
Orrock prides himself on his active membership with many community organizations. He has served on the boards of Sunrise Children’s Foundation, Nevada Taxpayers Association and Habitat for Humanity. He was past chairman (2012) of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce and serves on the Board of Trustees. He also has been a member of the Executive Advisory Board for the Lee Business School at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ and on the Executive Board of the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance.
Orrock is married to Diana V. Orrock, and they are the proud parents of three grown children: Chad, Kyle, and Cassie. In his spare time, Orrock enjoys traversing the country on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, enjoying time with family and golfing.
