Goals
The goals of the Family Support Services division are to:
- Provide individual and family counseling, wrap-around services to CAEO's participants who are referred to FSS.
- Educate families through workshops, role modeling, mentoring, and referrals to resources to assist individuals and families in overcoming life’s challenges.
- Engage families in becoming actively involved in their child’s education, and their community.
- Collaborate with schools, community agencies, and other center programs to meet the needs of the individual and the family.

Director
The Family Support Services Director is Dr. Esther Jones Langston, Ph.D., LCSW, ACSW, and Director/Professor Emeritus School of Social Work at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ. Dr. Langston has more than 50 years of social work education and practice. All FSS staff work under the direct supervision of Dr. Langston. As a division of CAEO all services offered through FSS are free of charge.

FSS Services
Family Support Services (FSS) is a division of The Dr. William W. Sullivan Center for Academic Enrichment and Outreach. The services provided by FSS staff are designed to meet the unique challenges in the participants’ lives in order to strengthen family units, improve school attendance, and decrease inappropriate behaviors in the school environment.
FSS is designed to assist individuals and their families overcome challenges in life by providing wrap-around (supportive) services. The program offers individual and family assessments, as well as individual, family and group counseling. Program staff members model effective parenting practices; advocate for participants’ overall health and well-being, and educational needs; connect families and individuals with community resources; and establish ongoing relationships with all of the necessary service providers.
Participants receive individualized services based on their needs and the needs of their families. Case management services provided by the staff of FSS include assisting in securing housing, arranging medical appointments, informing about domestic and sexual violence and social issues, kinship care, and referrals for needed services. Staff meet with students, families, and school personnel and assist participants in understanding the Clark County School District and/or Nevada System of Higher Education policies and procedures on attendance and school behaviors. To achieve these successes, students and families incorporate the intervention techniques provided by FSS staff within the family unit.
FSS Staff facilitate workshops on social skills, anger management, communication skills, conflict resolution, cultural awareness, decision-making skills, coping skills, suicide awareness, self-injury awareness, bullying, trauma informed care, grief and loss, and behavior modification.

P-FLAG: Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays
