KNSU Partnership: Seoul, South Korea

The 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Department of Dance and Korea National Sport University (KNSU) Department of Dance developed a partnership in 2006. This partnership is rooted in the desire to create mutually beneficial collaborative dance and cultural exchange experiences for the students and faculty of each institution. The fruits of this partnership have been biennially shared concerts of choreography that are performed in Seoul, South Korea and Las Vegas, NV. While at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ, there is an exciting week of master classes and a chance to see how the phenomenon of dance manifests itself in each country. When the concert ends, the journey continues. Twenty 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Dance majors travel to Seoul, South Korea, and present the concert again. Students are exposed to rich cultural offerings both inside the dance studio and out.

IABD Conference

The International Association of Blacks in Dance (IABD) preserves and promotes dance by people of African ancestry or origin, and assists and increases opportunities for artists. 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Dance Professor Vikki Baltimore-Dale has been a board member of the International Association of Blacks in Dance for over 10 years. From the start of her tenure at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ, she has been an advocate for racial equality. Professor Dale selects hard-working and ambitious dance majors to go to the IABD dance conference every year and the dancers perform alongside numerous professional dance companies in the nation such as the Ailey 2 company, Lulu Washington Dance Company, Dance Theatre Harlem, Dallas Black, Cleo Parker Robinson, and others. This opportunity grants them significant experience in a professional environment, inspires networking, and provides the possibility to audition for top-ranking companies. It is a profound and life changing experience for these young talented artists.
