The Salt Lake City TRAX Light Rail began operation in 1999, and extended its service in 2001, 2003, 2008, 2011, 2013, and 2022. The total length of the centerline of routes is approximately 45 miles with 51 stations. A one-mile radius buffer around each station covers approximately 50 square miles. This system would service most major commuting routes in the Las Vegas metro. The map on the left shows the actual light rail system in the Salt Lake City metro and the map on the right depicts what that metro's light rail system would look like if incorporated across the Las Vegas Valley.
