About

Radiochemistry encompasses chemical and nuclear properties of radioelements and isotopes. The 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Radiochemistry Ph.D. Program is a student-driven research intensive program stressing fundamental aspects of radiochemistry science. The curriculum and research provides a comprehensive and interdisciplinary examination of radiochemistry topics and experiences. Student opportunities in research and education are expanded through interactions with national and international collaborators. Program graduates have the necessary skill set to secure employment and participate in radiochemistry research and related activities.

Learning Outcomes

Technical Components
Thesis Committees assess the technical competency of students based on performance in programmatic courses identified as appropriate to the student, as well as performance in a research setting.
Communication Skills
Students are further evaluated on performance in seminars, prospectus, oral and written thesis, defense, presentations, and publications.
Analytical and Critical Thinking Skills
Assessed by the Thesis Committee and others who evaluate student performance on seminars, prospectus, oral and written reports, publication reviews, papers presented and/or submitted, and thesis.
Expertise in Radiochemistry
Thesis presentation, written, and oral. Assessed by Thesis Committee.

Career Possibilities

A Ph.D. degree, the terminal degree in the field of radiochemistry, provides a wide variety of career opportunities performing forefront research in areas as diverse as radiochemistry, nuclear chemistry, materials research, renewable energy studies, nuclear forensics, environmental studies, and many others. Furthermore, a Ph.D. degree is generally required to obtain a university faculty position to help educate the next generation of scientists.
