51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Minority-Serving Institution Student Success Summit

Our annual university-wide MSI Student Success Summit highlights our progress, identifies priorities, and develops innovative strategies to support student success in an equitable and inclusive learning environment.

51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ President Keith E. Whitfield and Executive Vice President and Provost Chris L. Heavey will welcome attendees at the university's 4th annual Minority-Serving Institution Student Success Summit. The summit will celebrate our Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander (AANAPI) community. On September 27th,, twenty-four years ago in 2007, Congress established the AANAPI-serving institution program. This program enables institutions of higher education who earn this designation to apply for Title III grants to support the access, success, and retention of AANAPI students. 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ earned this designation as an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-serving institution (AANAPISI) in 2013, and has since earned three unique AANAPISI grants to support student success. The summit will focus on learning about how each member of our campus community can contribute to our vision of being a premier minority-serving, Hispanic-serving, and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-serving institution.

The 4th Annual summit culminates 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's MSI Week activities, which are designed to promote learning, understanding, and awareness while sparking innovative ideas and dialogue among students, faculty, and staff. Our goal is to describe, define, and illuminate the successes/contributions, challenges, and opportunities that exist in our AANAPISI community.  By including students, staff, and faculty who identify with the AANAPI community, we plan to identify scalable models and structures that can bring more intentional equity-minded practices to our curriculum, campus procedures, and student services. These practices will help foster a passion for learning and a sense of belonging for every Rebel. The summit will showcase our students, national experts, and scholarship that advances equitable outcomes and encourages dialogue among campus partners. These, in turn, will advance ideas to help all students succeed at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ.

Purpose

This summit brings our campus community together to deepen our understanding of our responsibilities as an MSI. We'll explore effective strategies to better serve our students and provide attendees with actionable insights and additional tools to enhance student success.
