Description

This workshop, Critical Mixed Methods: The Imperative for Critical Inquiry and Reflexivity in Research, introduces graduate students to the transformative potential of Critical Mixed Methods Research (CMMR). By integrating critical inquiry and reflexivity, CMMR challenges traditional research paradigms to encourage socially just research practices. Participants will explore practical strategies for embedding critical perspectives into their mixed methods research process, from reflecting on researcher identity and positionality to incorporating inclusive theoretical frameworks. The session emphasizes actionable steps for leveraging research as a tool for addressing systemic inequities and promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice (DEIJ).

This interactive session is designed to equip graduate students with foundational knowledge and tools to incorporate critical inquiry into their mixed methods research. The workshop includes guided discussions, reflective exercises, and actionable strategies to ensure participants leave with practical insights to apply to their own studies.

By the end of this workshop, participants will:

  • Understand the principles and significance of Critical Mixed Methods Research (CMMR).
  • Develop reflexive skills to analyze how their identity and positionality shape their research.
  • Explore strategies for integrating critical theoretical frameworks into mixed methods designs.
  • Identify pathways to disseminate research findings for actionable social change and DEIJ advocacy.
