The theme of gathering 4 of the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Public Health Salon is the unexpected

Read, think, and come to mingle, snack, and discuss these stories:

All stories are contained in:
The New York Times Magazine. (2020). The Decameron Project: 29 New Stories from the Pandemic Selected by the Editors of the New York Times Magazine. New York: Scribner. 

This book may be borrowed from a library or purchased at a bookstore or online. It is also available through the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Library as an online book and as a New York Times Magazine issue. The magazine issue is accessible through The New York Times website.

  • The 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Public Health Salon is a forum for 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ School of Public Health (SPH) students, faculty, staff, alumni, and partners to read and think about stories with public health themes and to connect with others who are part of the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ SPH community.
  • The 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Public Health Salon will gather regularly and in person during the Fall 2024 semester.
  • Participants will read short stories written during the COVID-19 pandemic by prominent, contemporary authors; reading well-written writing is a gateway to writing well. 
  • Each Salon gathering will provide participants a chance to connect and to think about these stories. Conversations will focus on what these stories reveal about people living through a pandemic (including us) and implications for the public health sector.  
  • The schedule of gatherings and associated readings is available on the . Attend as many gatherings as you can.  RSVP is recommended, but attend even if you did not. 
  • Participating is voluntary and free. 
  • There will be snacks.
