Facilities Management consists of multiple departments that maintain state-supported facilities, equipment, and assets. This includes more than 100 buildings covering nearly 4.4 million square feet and 360 acres over the Maryland (332) and Shadow Lane (18) campuses.

Our Units and Services
Building Operations and Maintenance consists of eight trade shops specializing in technical skills and competencies to maintain our indoor campus environments. These technical competencies include:

Custodial Services performs general cleaning and housekeeping duties.
The Facilities Management(FM) IT unit is dedicated to supporting and enhancing the technological infrastructure and operations of Facilities Management, ensuring the smooth integration of technology into the department’s daily functions.
IT oversight includes:
- IT infrastructure management: Monitoring, managing, and maintaining servers hosted on private cloud data centers that support Facilities Management applications.
- IT asset management: Managing the inventory of computer hardware and software applications.
- Application development: Designing and building custom applications to optimize Facilities Management operations. This includes managing facilities management databases and maintain data backup and recovery efforts.
Facilities Management Finance and Business Operations (FMBO) oversees the division’s financial and personnel-related processes, which includes:
Purchasing
- Vetting and processing invoices, submitting purchase requests, modifying purchase orders, and reconciling account statements. They also interface with Facility Management’s external suppliers.
Budgets
- FMBO handles most internal finances for the Facilities Management department. They also review budget accuracy on expenditures against set budgets, process fiscal year budgets for self-supporting accounts, collaborate with project managers to develop budgets, and prepare and process budget reports for the leadership team.
Billing and chargebacks
- Verifying and processing billable work orders for work performed by the Facilities Management trades that are not considered routine maintenance. Reviewing utility meter data and bill campus departments for utility usage.
Personnel
Personnel specialists are responsible for the following tasks:
- Onboarding/offboarding
- Overtime, compensatory time, hazardous time processing
- Leave audits
- Student worker/ temporary worker recruitment
- Time entry for students and temporary workers
- Contingent workers
51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ’s landscaping, which is maintained by the Landscape and Grounds team, includes water-smart native plants that provide aesthetically pleasing outdoor environments across our campuses. The Maryland campus also features a state-recognized arboretum and xeric garden that serves as places for respite and education.
The Facilities Management Project Management Office (PMO) strategically plans and executes large-scale projects that require collaboration among various FM departments and campus stakeholders. The PMO also oversees campus-wide capital improvement projects (CIP). These are significant initiatives to establish, renovate, or enhance buildings, roads, and other infrastructures.
The Rebel Recycling Program (RRP) is committed to providing the campus with comprehensive waste reduction, recycling, and resource management.
The Shadow Lane Campus, located in the heart of the Las Vegas Medical District, is a 21.6-acre campus that houses four commercial buildings, totaling nearly 330,205 square feet. All aspects of building and grounds maintenance are handled by a combination of on-site staff, support from the Maryland campus Facilities Management, and contracted services. This includes:
- HVAC
- Carpentry
- Custodial
- Electrical
- grounds work
- Painting
- Plumbing
Custodial services are contracted out. In addition to these duties, Facilities Management at Shadow Lane supports the ongoing programs of the School of Dental Medicine, the Clinical Simulation Center of Las Vegas (CSCLV) for the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ School of Nursing, and biomedical research.
Vehicle Repair Services provides maintenance and repair services for campus vehicles, light and heavy-duty equipment, and electric carts.
Facilities Management operates two on-campus warehouses located in the Operations and Maintenance Main Warehouse (OM3) and Operations and Maintenance 4 - Custodial Shop (OM4) buildings. These warehouses stock maintenance-related parts and custodial supplies that support FM trade shops and custodial teams.
While Facilities Management is the primary customer of the warehouses, they are also accessible to the entire campus community. Employees authorized to charge purchases to 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ accounts can submit a work order through the .
The Work Management group consists of the Help Desk and Asset Management teams.
Help Desk
The help desk is the "front door" to facilities services. Customers submit requests through an online system to query information and costs, as well as receive status updates via email. The help desk team routes submitted tickets to the correct trade shop to assist in solving the issue or concern. On average, the help desk receives 30,000 service requests per year.
Additionally, the help desk team uses a Computerized Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) that tracks and monitors more than 9,000 pieces of equipment. This includes mechanical systems, heating/cooling systems, sprinkler systems, cooling towers, landscaping equipment, and electric carts. The help desk routinely communicates with building liaisons about impacts to their buildings.
Asset Management
Asset Management works alongside the help desk and keeps all CMMS records up to date as our campus changes (adding and deactivating equipment, rooms, buildings, etc.). They also track pertinent warranty information and operate the preventive/predictive maintenance program.
