51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ

51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ’s Contemporary Jazz Ensemble explores many different genres in and around the medium of Jazz, with a focus on workshopping new jazz compositions by 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ students and Alumni. Contemporary Jazz Ensemble is directed by 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Alum Julian Tanaka. 

Members of the Contemporary Jazz Ensemble must be enrolled in order to participate in this class. As a member, you will:

• Explore and perform jazz music related to styles that have evolved since the mainstream and bebop eras.
• Be encouraged to write for the band.
• Create music according to your interests.
• Perform in the repertoire class and at various concerts during the term.
• Stay at the cutting edge of jazz music as it continues to evolve.
• Explore new directions in jazz.
• Be encouraged to find your voice and explore new territory with the intention of preparing yourself for a career in composition and performance.
