Austin Horng-En Wang (Political Science) was invited by the Center for Taiwan Studies at the University of Texas at Austin to have a talk on March 3, titled "." In this talk, Wang explains the psychological mechanisms behind the willingness to fight, especially when the cost and risk are high. Wang further illustrates empirical evidences supporting the rational choice and group identity theories on explaining the will to fight through a series of surveys and survey experiments in Taiwan. In the end, Wang also shows how the change in the public opinion across 58 countries after the Ukraine crisis could be explained by the similar mechanism.
