Eduardo A. Robleto (Life Sciences) and Josh Baker of the pharmacology department at UNR have been awarded an INBRE (IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence) grant from the National Institutes of Health (Institute of General Medical Sciences). This award is for five years and $19.8 million. This is a programmatic and collaborative award. The key personnel leading this effort are Baker (principal investigator, UNR), Robleto (program coordinator), Edwin Oh from 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's Nevada Institute of Personalized Medicine, and Juli Petereit from bioinformatics, UNR (co-directors of data science), and Jessica Garfield (director of research administration, UNR). This award aims to improve the biomedical research infrastructure of the state of Nevada by developing junior faculty research and increasing research capacity at higher education institutions in Nevada, particularly those with high enrollment of underrepresented populations and limited research. Also, this award sponsors training opportunities for students in research and bioinformatics (data science), collaborative and interdisciplinary projects between faculty in the U.S. western states, and access to state-of-the-art research technology.
