Her chapter, titled "Thanaviewing, the Aokigahara Forest, and Orientalism: Rhetorical Separations between the Self and Other in The Forest" analyzes how using Japan's Aokigahara Forest as a backdrop for the horror film The Forest functions to orientalize Japanese people and culture and to minimize the real social and cultural concerns of suicide in Japan.
