Jarret Keene's (English) made the in the third to fifth grade category. Running since 1972, the list is an annual project of the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) and the Children's Book Council (CBC) that honors exceptional books for use in social studies classrooms, selected by social studies educators. Heroes of WWII was published last year by Bushel & Peck Books.
