Johann Heske (Theatre), a 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ senior and former campus recreation lifeguard, recently used his 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ lifeguard training to help save a life while on a plane. While on a flight from Germany to Las Vegas, a passenger had been drinking, and could not be awakened. Heske, seated two rows back, jumped up and offered help. He put the passenger's seat back and his checked breathing and pulse. The passenger had a pulse but was not breathing so Heske started ventilations. When a crew member came out of the cockpit to investigate, Heske explained and urged the pilot to make an emergency landing. Heske, accompanied by two fellow passengers, performed rescue ventilations while the flight made its emergency landing. Heske worked on campus as a lifeguard with campus recreational services from May 2017 to September 2018.
