The Marjorie Barrick Museum provides 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ faculty, staff, and students with access to its outstanding collections through a variety of programs and services. The museum encourages faculty from all disciplines to take advantage of the following offerings.
Self-Guided Tours — The museum's permanent collection exhibitions are designed to introduce visitors to native cultures of the American Southwest and Mesoamerica. One of the strengths of the collection is its diversity, suggesting connections with course work in many departments including languages, writing, cultural studies, anthropology, art history, history, the sciences, education, and the visual and performing arts.
Special Exhibition Projects — We encourage faculty to present possible exhibition topics relating to issues in their field and the museum's . Exhibitions that create opportunities for interdisciplinary exchange will be of particular interest. Major exhibitions require at least two years of advance planning.
Teaching and Preceptorial Exhibitions — Each year, the museum's small temporary gallery is made available to faculty for teaching exhibitions organized around a particular issue or course of study. If you have ideas for exhibitions that would enhance the courses taught in your academic area, we are interested in hearing about them. The deadline for planning a fall exhibition is April 1, and Oct. 1 for the spring semester.
To View Objects from Storage — The museum's collection includes 1,000's of objects of which only a small percentage are on view at any given time. 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ faculty are welcome to schedule class or personal research visits to view specific objects from storage.
Mannetta Braunstein Research Library — The library is open by appointment only, Monday through Friday.
Barrick Student Association — The Barrick Student Association is a group for students who share a common interest in and an appreciation for museums. The aim of the BSA is to promote student awareness of the museum's collections, exhibitions, and resources. The group will advise on organizing student-only special programs/events and assist with on campus advertising.
Barrick Arts Collective — The purpose of Barrick Arts Collective is to represent all forms of art at the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Majorie Barrick Museum including: visual, performing and literary arts. Through producing events, workshops and exhibitions the BAC aims to encourage and instill a collaborative artistic community on campus by offering as many opportunities as possible for students to get involved. We encourage everyone to get involved. Art students, science students, all students are welcome.
Volunteer Opportunities — Students Volunteer opportunities in administrative and curatorial departments are available throughout the academic year. Positions will be filled as museum needs arise.
