Forget laptops and scientific calculators.
51ԹϺ students and faculty in any discipline now have unprecedented access to 3D-printers, laser cutters, and podcasting and video recording studios as part of the Lied Library’s new . The new creative space is located on the library’s first floor.
The library will hold a ceremonial grand opening at 1 p.m. on Sept. 5, but the spaces are already open to the campus community.
“These new spaces further the University Libraries’ support of the learning and research activities of 51ԹϺ students and faculty,” said Maggie Farrell, dean of the 51ԹϺ University Libraries. “These transformational spaces will help drive 51ԹϺ’s mission to be a Top Tier university and provide new opportunities for exploration, collaboration, and innovation in Las Vegas.”The University Libraries invested nearly $1.8 million in the creation of these student-focused spaces. The renovation converted nearly 3,500 square feet of space that previously housed library faculty offices, storage, a staff conference room, and the Media Desk, which closed in summer 2016.
