Details
About 2,300 students will officially become 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ alumni next week as they cross the Thomas & Mack Center stage during the university’s winter commencement.
The Class of 2023 hails from 36 states/U.S. territories and 39 countries, many are the first in their family to graduate from college, 88% are Nevada residents, and the majority – 71% – are from ethnically diverse backgrounds.
This year’s class ranges in age from 19 to 72 — with the average age of 25. Since 1964, 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ has awarded more than 172,000 degrees.
In keeping with commencement tradition, 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ President Keith E. Whitfield will highlight six graduating students for their outstanding academic and community achievements.
In the wake of the Dec. 6 campus tragedy, attendees should be aware of the following updates:
- We’re enhancing security measures at the Thomas & Mack Center in coordination with law enforcement. Doors will open 90 minutes prior to each ceremony to allow for necessary screening, and the venue’s bag policy will be in effect.
- Mental health counseling and wellness resources will be offered on site prior to and during each ceremony for anyone who needs them.
- We’re offering students eligible for winter commencement the option to walk and participate fully during the May 2024 commencement ceremonies if they choose.
