Biography

Seyhmus Baloglu is an expert on hospitality and tourism marketing and consumer behavior. He has diverse experience in the industry, including restaurants, hotels, resorts, and travel agencies. His published research and scholarly activities revolve around branding, customer loyalty, customer sentiment and behavior analysis via data mining and text mining, automation and service robots, and green and sustainable practices in the lodging and restaurant industries and tourist destinations.

Baloglu, a professor with 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's world-renowned William F. Harrah College of Hospitality, has presented marketing courses and seminars in Asia, Australia, Europe, and the Caribbean. He is the co-author of the best-selling Marketing for Hospitality and Tourism textbook. Other books he has co-authored are Managing and Marketing Tourist Destinations: Strategies to Gain a Competitive Edge and Handbook of Scales in Tourism and Hospitality Research.

His research has been published extensively in peer-reviewed journals such as Journal of Business Research, Journal of Hospitality Marketing and Management, Cornell Hospitality Quarterly, Journal of Travel & Tourism Marketing, and Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Research.

An internationally recognized scholar, Baloglu has consistently been named one of the significant contributors to hospitality and tourism and he is the recipient of numerous prestigious research and teaching awards. Notably, he was honored with the John Wiley & Sons Lifetime Research Achievement Award from the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education (ICHRIE) in 2014. He also received 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's Barrick Distinguished Scholar Award (2017) and the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Alumni's Distinguished Faculty Award (2014). His most recent accolade is the 2022 Harry Reid Silver State Research Award, 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's most prestigious research award.
