51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's International Gaming Institute has received a $100,000 grant from ACE Denken Co. of Japan to compile a training manual for the gaming industry, according to Vincent Eade, director of the institute.
ACE Denken Co., a manufacturer of gaming equipment for the pachinko industry, has been a strong supporter of 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration. A $2 million endowment created by the company and its president, Takatoshi Takemoto, in 1992 enabled the college to launch its Ph.D. program in hospitality administration and a research journal.
Takemoto announced his intention to provide a $100,000 grant during his Oct. 16 visit to the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ campus, when he met with 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ President Carol C. Harter and Dean David Christianson for the unveiling of his portrait, which now hangs in the college's Hall of Fame.
The grant will be used to collect and publish the material from a series of seminars that the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ International Gaming Institute has presented to ACE Denken employees over the past two and a half years, Eade said. The material includes lectures, related information, and numerous case studies.
"We expect this book to be a very useful training tool for the gaming industry in both the United States and Japan," Eade said. "We are grateful to ACE Denken and Mr. Takemoto for their assistance in making it possible."
The book will cover such topics as casino marketing, human resources management, computerization and technology in the gaming industry, customer service, security and crisis management, financial issues, regulatory and legal issues, internal control procedures, trends analysis, comparative studies of the gaming operations in the United States and Japan, and economic and social issues.
"This project is part of our continuing relationship with ACE Denken Co.," Eade said. "The purpose of this relationship is to increase knowledge and foster education in the gaming arena. It makes possible a dialogue on the strategic issues confronting the gaming industry in Japan and the United States and encourages cultural exchange in such areas as management philosophy and style."
The 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ International Gaming Institute is a premier source of information and training for the gaming industry worldwide. It presents education programs, conducts gaming research, and disseminates gaming knowledge via seminars, classes, and publications, including the "Gaming Research and Review Journal." It is part of the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
