Fred Albrecht, who has directed 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's alumni relations program since 1973, has been named executive director of alumni and community relations, according to President Carol C. Harter.
Albrecht has been at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ for 25 years, 20 of those years as director of alumni relations. He also oversaw the university's athletic fund-raising efforts from 1983 to 1988 and served as interim athletic director during May, June, and July of this year, prior to the arrival of new Athletic Director Charlie Cavagnaro.
In addition to continuing his role in alumni relations and his work with the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Alumni Association, Albrecht will be responsible for the university's government relations program, as well as internal and external communications. He will be assisted in the communications effort by Les Raschko as director of university publications and reprographics and Tom Flagg as director of 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ news and public information.
Albrecht's salary will increase from $73,929 to $90,514. Raschko's salary will continue at $73,000 and Flagg's salary will increase from $45,000 to $55,000.
"We are in a period of transition at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ," Harter said. "We have begun the exciting, challenging process of strategic planning, which will bring new focus -- and perhaps some redefinition -- to the university's mission.
"Our goal is to improve the way 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ serves the people of Nevada. We can only reach that goal if we take advantage of the strengths and expertise of people like Fred, Les, and Tom, who have given many years of service to the university."
Raschko and Flagg have been members of the university professional staff since 1980, Raschko as director of the Office of Information Services, which became University News, Publications, and Reprographics, and Flagg as public information specialist and, since 1989, manager of the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ News Bureau.
"I'm looking forward to the challenge of my expanded responsibilities and to working more closely with our community and government leaders," Albrecht said.
