An assistant city manager for the city of Las Vegas has been hired as the new director of marketing and community relations at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, according to Fred Albrecht, executive director of alumni and community relations.
Lynette Boggs McDonald will join 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ on Feb. 18.
McDonald, who will report to Albrecht, will be responsible for establishing a marketing plan for the university. She will work closely with 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's executive officers, as well as with campus communication and enrollment management personnel, to enhance the university's position in the competitive marketplace of higher education. She will also assist in 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's efforts to create partnerships and collaborative programs in the larger Las Vegas community.
"We are fortunate to have Lynette McDonald joining our team," Albrecht said. "This is a new position for 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ, one which is called for in our 10-year strategic planning document, and we are confident that Lynette will help us attain our goal of becoming a premier urban university."
McDonald has served as assistant city manager for the city of Las Vegas since January 1994 and has been responsible for a variety of special projects, including the creation of the Development Services Center and the siting of the proposed domed stadium in the heart of downtown Las Vegas.
Las Vegas Mayor Jan Jones commented, "We will really miss Lynette. She has been a tremendous asset to the city. I know she will make great contributions to 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ, and we believe the university's continued growth and development are key to maintaining our status as a world-class city. Prior to her appointment as assistant city manager, McDonald was director of marketing for the University of Nevada School of Medicine.
McDonald is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, where she received a bachelor's degree in marketing. She was recently named the 1997 Alumni Woman of Achievement by Notre Dame's College of Business Administration, commemorating 25 years of coeducation at the university. She will be honored in South Bend, Ind., in June.
She also attended the University of Oregon Graduate School of Journalism and will complete a master's degree in public administration from 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ in 1997.
McDonald is a 1993 graduate of the Leadership Las Vegas program of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce. She is a past board member of the chamber's Community Council and has been an active participant in SMARTGRAD, a school-to-work transition program for high school seniors.
She is a PAYBAC (Professionals and Youth Building a Commitment) volunteer for the Clark County School District and has served on the Board of Directors for Opportunity Village.
McDonald's salary at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ will be $78,000.
