Former Clark County Manager Donald "Pat" Shalmy has been appointed Public Executive in Residence at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ and will begin teaching at the university this fall on a part-time basis, 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ President Carol C. Harter announced.
Shalmy, who now heads the Greater Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce, will teach courses in the department of public administration, which is housed in the College of Business. This fall he and public administration professor Leonard "Pat" Goodall will team-teach a graduate seminar in urban administration.
He also will give guest lectures in other courses, serve on the examining committees of graduate students completing their master of public administration degrees, and will be available for professional and academic advising for public administration students. He will teach in the evenings, both to make his courses available to working adults and to allow him to fulfill his duties at the Chamber of Commerce during the day.
"We are delighted that Pat Shalmy has joined us as our first Public Executive in Residence," said Elvin Lashbrooke, dean of 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's College of Business. "He brings a wealth of experience in public management to the position and will be a tremendous resource for our students."
