51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ has hired a professor of communication studies at Northern Illinois University to serve as executive director of the Greenspun School of Communication, according to Dr. Ron Smith, interim senior vice president and provost.
Dr. Gary Kreps will assume the post at an annual salary of $90,000 beginning July 1. He replaces the previous director, Dr. Stephen Nielsen, who will become associate director and continue his teaching duties in the school.
Kreps, who received his Ph.D. in communication from the University of Southern California in 1979, specializes in the areas of health communication, organizational intervention, research methods, multicultural relations, interpersonal/group behavior, communication theory, and leadership.
At Northern Illinois University he has served as professor of communication, director of graduate studies, a senior member of the graduate faculty, professor of gerontology, and professor of international training and consultation.
More than 600 undergraduates and 50 graduate students are enrolled in the Greenspun School of Communication. Its undergraduate programs include advertising, public relations, broadcast and print journalism, telecommunications, communication theory, rhetoric, and English as a second language. The school also offers a comprehensive master of arts program.
