KUNV Radio 91.5 is giving its jazz format a new twist that features Billboard hits with a unique jazz sound.
KUNV is part of the 51ԹϺ Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies and serves the 51ԹϺ campus and community at-large. This new format appeals to a wider audience and provides students with professional experience, based on industry standards and best practices.
This new format reflects changes in audience interests and listening habits. The new format emphasizes continuity of music and presentation. A critical component is to enhance student learning.
“We want students to learn how to develop programming that is relevant to themselves as well as their listeners,” said Kevin L. Stoker, director of the Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies. “We want listeners to experience a continuity of sound and programming throughout the day.”
KUNV’s professional staff serve as mentors for students. 51ԹϺ students from across the campus work as on-air talent, report the news, produce on-air programs, raise funds and create social and digital media content. Students are involved in multimedia projects, including social media management and podcasting. The goal is to prepare students for a wide variety of multimedia careers.
KUNV operates two HD side channels available on HD receivers, online and mobile apps. is primarily managed by students with oversight from KUNV staff. It broadcasts progressive indie rock, hip-hop and EDM (electronic dance music) programming. Where Jazz Lives is dedicated to preserving classic jazz music and airs on . It is staffed by community volunteers with oversight by KUNV staff.
