51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's Inaugural Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration, which was held on Jan. 21 in the Moyer Student Union Ballroom at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ, will air on Jan. 28 and 30 at 9 p.m. on Cox Communications Channel 70.
Delivering the keynote address of the event was the Honorable Michael Douglas, Nevada's first African-American Supreme Court Justice. Douglas has served in the state for 22 years with the district attorney's office and as a judge in the Eighth Judicial District Court. In November 2004 he was elected to a full term on the Nevada Supreme Court.
The program opened with the complete audio of Dr. King's historic "I Have A Dream" speech, accompanied by a moving photographic montage. Attendees were also treated to special vocal performances by 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ music students, who chose pieces they felt best reflected Dr. King's memory and legacy.
The inaugural Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ was sponsored by the offices of the Vice President for Administration, Student Multicultural Programs, the Committee for an Inclusive and Just University, and Human Resources and Diversity Initiatives.
