Seven student members of 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's Forensics and Debate team recently received Milken Family Foundation Scholarships for the 1996-1997 academic year.
The scholarships are for $1,000 and $500 and are awarded through the Greenspun School of Communication. Each year, the Milken Family Foundation awards are given as a means of benefiting student competitors. This is the fifth year the scholarships have been awarded.
Michelle Matlock, a junior, and Mercedes McGill and Tonna Purtle, two incoming freshmen, each received $1,000 scholarships. McGill and Purtle are local residents who competed for Bonanza High School.
Senior Steve Robertson, junior E.J. Gladding, sophomore Richard Kimbrough, and incoming freshman Michael Laxague each received $500 scholarships.
These students will begin competition in September and travel regionally and nationally as they represent 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ. For more information regarding debate and forensics scholarship opportunities at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ call Barbara Pickering at 895-3455 or Rosie Mays at 895-4643.
