Just in time for Valentine's Day, the Nevada Conservatory Theatre presents The Beaux' Stratagem by George Farquhar Feb. 11-20 in the Judy Bayley Theatre. Laura Gordon directs.
In a new adaptation of the classic English comedy, Tom Aimwell and Jack Archer are two swashbuckling young cads who have lost their family inheritance while living the highlife in London. Determined to restore their status and their wealth, the young scallywags travel in disguise to the countryside in search of eligible rich and naïve young women to marry. Little do they know how they have underestimated their targets in more ways than one.
Full of swashbuckling and sparkling repartee, this classic is a comic tangle of wild schemes and hilarious happenstance that will hit the bullseye. For mature audiences.
A Milwaukee-based actor and director, Gordon is very pleased to return to NCT where she appeared as Lady Bracknell in The Importance of Being Earnest in 2018 and directed Eurydice in 2014. Other directing credits include productions at American Players Theatre, Milwaukee Rep, Santa Cruz Shakespeare, Utah Shakespeare Festival, Indiana Rep, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Renaissance Theaterworks, Milwaukee Chamber Theatre, Forward Theater, and Actors Theatre of Louisville. A member of SDC and Actors Equity Association, she received her MFA in Acting from the University of Iowa, and is a Lunt-Fontanne Fellow.
