The Nevada Conservatory Theatre at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ proudly presents August Wilson's "Seven Guitars" March 2 to March 11 in the Judy Bayley Theatre at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ. Directed by Christopher Edwards, "Seven Guitars" is the sixth play in Wilson's decade-by-decade exploration of the black experience in America; two of which have won the Pulitzer Prize.
In the backyard of a Pittsburgh tenement in 1948, friends gather to mourn and celebrate a blues guitarist and singer who died just as his career was on the verge of taking off. Part bawdy comedy, part elegy and part mystery, it is a flashback to the busy week leading up to Floyd's sudden and unnatural death. The play is rated PG.
The cast features Equity actors Rayme Cornell as Louise, Nate Bynum as Red Carter, and "ranney" as Hedley.
Others in the cast include Kevin Tomlinson, Gerrad Taylor, Valencia Boone, and Vanencia Wilson.
Edwards has worked as a freelance director, actor and educator for the past 14 years in New York, nationally and internationally. Professional directing credits include: "MythUnderstood" and "Love's Obsession" with Lincoln Center's "Meet the Artists" program; staged reading of "How to Break" with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival; "I Have Before Me A Remarkable Document Given To Me By A Young Lady From Rwanda" with Vermont Stage Co.; "Shakespeare The Remix" with Capital Repertory Theater; "Master Harold...and the boys" with St. Michael's Playhouse; "Macbeth," "The Taming of the Shrew," "Around the World in 80 Days," "Bomb-itty of Errors," "Romeo and Juliet," "The Winter's Tale," "Hamlet," "A Midsummer Night's Dream," and "Julius Caesar" with the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival, where he is currently Associate Artistic Director and the Director of Education.
Performances are March 2, 3, 8, 9, and 10 at 8 p.m., and March 4 and 11 at 2 p.m. Tickets range from $20 to $30 and are on sale at the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Performing Arts Center Box Office. Special rates are available for groups of 15 or more.
