Donald D. Snyder, president and CEO of the Fremont Street Experience, is the new vice chairman of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Foundation Board of Trustees. Snyder's appointment was announced June 30 by Foundation Chairman Tom Hartley, who also announced the names of seven new trustees.
The University and Community College System of Nevada's Board of Regents approved the new trustees during its June 29 meeting at the Cheyenne campus of the Community College of Southern Nevada. The new trustees are Dianne M. Jett, Scott Y. MacTaggart, Anthony M. Marlon, M.D., Edward J. Quirk, Sig Rogich, Larry Ruvo, and Clyde T. Turner.
The 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Foundation is a private, non-profit organization which was incorporated in 1981 to encourage private and business donations to the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ The UCCSN regents are members of the Foundation and appoint volunteer trustees who oversee its operations. There are currently 60 trustees.
Snyder has been extremely active as the chairman of the Foundation's finance and investment committee. His extensive business and financial management experience was acquired during 22 years with First Interstate Bank of Nevada, where he served as chairman and CEO from 1987 until 1991. His other civic associations include chairman of the board of Nathan Adelson Hospice, past chairman of United Way of Southern Nevada, and board membership of the Nevada Development Authority.
Dianne Jett, president, Sprint/Central Telephone - Nevada, began her career with the company in Lincoln, Neb. She has worked at the Las Vegas operation since 1976 and was appointed to her current position in March, 1993. Jett is also a member of the 1995 Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce executive committee, on the boards of United Way of Southern Nevada, and YMCA.
Scott MacTaggart is in charge of the Las Vegas office of the tax practice of Arthur Andersen. He is also active in charitable and civic affairs, including the Nevada Symphony Orchestra, Nevada Community Foundation, Leadership Las Vegas, and the Nathan Adelson Hospice.
Anthony M. Marlon is the founder, chairman of the board and CEO of Sierra Health Services, Inc. He is a cardiologist and was chief of cardiology at University Medical Center of Southern Nevada from 1972 until 1985. Marlon is also a trustee of the Nevada Development Authority and a clinical associate professor in the departments of medicine at University of Arizona and Tulane University.
Edward J. (Ted) Quirk is a partner in Las Vegas legal firm Quirk & Tratos. His other business activities include several residential and commercial development partnerships. Quirk is also a board member of several charitable and civic organizations, such as the Boys and Girls Clubs of Las Vegas, Lied Discovery Children's Museum, Young Audiences, Allied Arts Council, and the Desert Research Institute.
Sig Rogich founded R&R Advertising in Las Vegas in 1974. He is a 1967 alumnus of the University of Nevada, Reno and formerly served as a U.S. presidential advisor, U.S. Ambassador to Iceland, UCCSN Regent, 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Foundation trustee, and several other distinguished leadership positions. His civic and charitable activities include United Way for Southern Nevada, and Opportunity Village.
Larry Ruvo is a Las Vegas native and senior managing director for Southern Wine and Spirits of Nevada. He is a member of the Young Presidents' Organization, Chaine des Rotisseurs, the Nevada Dance Theater and many other civic organizations. For the past 20 years, Ruvo and Southern Wine and Spirits of Nevada have sponsored the annual "51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏino" wine tasting benefit for students of the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration.
Clyde Turner, chairman and CEO of Circus Circus Enterprises Inc., is a Las Vegas native and alumnus of University of Nevada, Reno. He has served in numerous business and leadership capacities, including being a member of the Nevada Gaming Commission.
