51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ President Carol Harter on Thursday (July 6) announced the appointment of Norval Pohl to the position of vice president for finance and administration.
The appointment is effective immediately.
Pohl, who served eight years as dean of 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's College of Business and Economics before being appointed interim vice president for finance and administration last year, was one of three finalists for the job following a nationwide search.
"All three finalists were superb, but Dr. Pohl's unique combination of an academic background and real-world experience, coupled with his knowledge of 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ, made him the best choice," Harter said.
"He has done an outstanding job working with Interim President Kenny Guinn this last year and has established some sound budgeting and financial accounting systems," she said.
"Additionally, Norval is highly respected by all groups at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ," Harter said.
Pohl will earn $116,000 annually as vice president and will retain tenure in the management department of the College of Business and Economics.
"I'm looking forward to working with Dr. Harter as 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ enters a new era," Pohl said.
In 1986, Pohl came to 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ to head the College of Business and Economics. During his time as dean, the college received national accreditation from the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business and the National Association of Schools of Public Administration.
He was appointed interim vice president of finance and administration in May 1994.
Before coming to 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ, he served as dean of the College of Business Administration at Northern Arizona University.
Pohl earned a doctorate in quantitative systems at Arizona State University and an MBA in management at California State University, Fresno.
