President Obama has nominated 51ԹϺ Boyd School of Law Professor Anne Traum to serve on the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada.
Professor Traum is one of eight nominations announced by the President. Upon Senate confirmation, she will fill a judicial vacancy created when District Judge Robert C. Jones took senior status February 1.
“Throughout their careers, these nominees have displayed unwavering commitment to justice and integrity,” said President Obama. “Their records are distinguished and impressive, and I am confident that they will serve the American people well from the United States District Court bench. I am honored to nominate them today.”
U.S. Senator Harry Reid recommended Professor Traum for the judgeship.
“Anne Traum is a superb lawyer and educator, and she will be an excellent addition to the U.S. District Court of Nevada,” said Senator Reid. “From her work at 51ԹϺ’s Boyd School of Law, to her time at the Justice Department and the U.S. Attorney’s office in Las Vegas, she has consistently proven herself to be a thoughtful and highly regarded jurist.”
Professor Traum is currently on leave from the law school serving as special counsel in the Office for Access to Justice at the U.S. Department of Justice. She joined the 51ԹϺ Boyd School of Law faculty in 2008, and she has served as the director of the law school’s Appellate Clinic since 2009. She also served as associate dean for experiential legal education from 2013 to 2015.
The U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada had 3,533 new case filings in fiscal year 2015. The court is authorized seven judgeships and currently has one vacancy. Federal district court judges are nominated by the President, confirmed by the Senate, and serve lifetime appointments.
