The School of Music welcomes Ka-Wai Yu, cello professor at Dixie State, as part of the 5-String Baroque Cello Project Recital in the Rando-Grillot Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 14. The concert is free and open to the public.

Yu brings a five-string cello, a replica of the so-called violoncello piccolo that J.S. Bach used when he composed his famous cello suites. Yu will play one of those suites. Music professor Jonathan Rhodes Lee joins him on a copy of an 1806 fortepiano by Anton Walter, who built instruments for Mozart and Beethoven. (This particular piano was built around 2000 by Paul McNulty in Divisov, Czech Republic.) They will collaborate on performances of Schubert's "Arpeggione" sonata, which nicely shows off both instruments, and a newly commissioned piece by professor Jennifer Bellor called "Damselfly Prelude."
