Ten students from Southern Nevada recently were selected as recipients of 1997-98 Jean Nidetch Scholarships.
To be eligible, the students had to show that they have overcome adversity in order to pursue their educations. Each recipient will be awarded $2,500. The scholarships are named after Jean Nidetch, founder of Weight Watchers International and benefactor of 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's Jean Nidetch Women's Center.
The 1997-98 Nidetch scholars are Virginia Bradberry-Almond and Tanya Pritchett of Sunset High School; Melissa Brooks of Western High School; Lori Cowan of Boulder City High School; Dwaine Harrison of Eldorado High School; Melanie Harvey and Nora Mendoza of Valley High School; David Head of Community College High School; Adam Hill of Silverado High School; and Tiffany Niedert, a 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ senior majoring in elementary education.
The recipients will be honored at the annual Jean Nidetch Scholarship Award Ceremony and Reception on Oct. 29 at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's Marjorie Barrick Museum of Natural History.
