The University of Nevada, Las Vegas has announced the three finalists in the search for its next executive vice president and provost. This position reports to 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ President Neal Smatresk and serves as the university's chief academic and budget officer.
Each candidate will visit the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ campus over the next two weeks for a series of meetings with university administration, faculty, staff and students. The candidates, listed in the order they will be visiting campus, are:
- - Dean, College of Sciences, University of Texas at El Paso
- - Dean, School of Health Professions, University of Alabama at Birmingham
- - Dean, College of Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, California State University-Los Angeles

A recruitment and screening committee, chaired by William S. Boyd School of law dean John Valery White, will review feedback from each meeting. The committee will summarize the strengths of each candidate for 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ President Neal Smatresk, who will make the final selection.
The Executive Vice President and Provost oversees and aligns academic and budgetary policy and priorities, ensures the quality of the faculty and student body, helps to expand the research enterprise and maintains the educational excellence of the institution. This person also serves as the university's chief executive officer in the absence of the president.
