The final three fall presentations in the University Forum lecture series at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ will take place in November.
On Nov. 13, poet A. Wilber Stevens, an emeritus professor of English at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ, will give a reading from his latest collection of poems, "From the Still Empty Grave." Stevens also will read from a new semi-autobiographical sequence dealing with what is politely known as "the academic life."
On Nov. 17, Claudia Card, a philosophy professor from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, will speak on the topic "Caring, Justice, and Ethics."
"`Come Home America:' Re-emerging Neo-Isolationism After the Cold War or Another Great Debate About America's Global Role?" will be the topic when 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ political science professor Robert Bigler speaks on Nov. 28. The lecture will aim at a better understanding of why the sharp disagreements concerning America's global role are worthy of serious debate in the coming presidential election campaign.
All the presentations are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Natural History. They are open to the public free of charge.
The University Forum lecture series is sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts. Card's lecture is co-sponsored by 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's women's studies program, and Bigler's talk is co-sponsored by the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Foundation.
