51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ students and faculty, along with a wide variety of professionals, will participate in an intensive three-day, non-stop design marathon, known as a "charette," Thursday through Saturday at the headquarters of Culinary Workers Union Local #226.
The Second Annual 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Downtown Charette will be titled "Virtual Visionaries." The goal of the charette is to develop a master plan for two downtown areas.
The two areas chosen for this year's charette are the Fremont Street Corridor and the Main Street/Las Vegas Boulevard Corridor. The Fremont Street Corridor is bounded by Ogden Avenue on the north, Carson Avenue on the south, Las Vegas Boulevard on the west, and Eastern Avenue on the east. The Main Street/Las Vegas Boulevard Corridor is bounded by Bonneville Avenue on the north, Charleston Avenue on the south, Main Street on the east, and Las Vegas Boulevard on the west.
To accomplish their goal, charette participants will work 24-hours-a-day from 8 a.m. Thursday until they make a public presentation of their work at 3 p.m. Saturday. The public is invited to drop by the charette at any time. All activities will take place at the headquarters of Culinary Workers Union Local #226, located at 1630 S. Commerce St.
Among the participants will be 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ architecture, landscape architecture, interior design, and art students; faculty and students from other architecture schools; invited professionals from around the world; local architects, planners, economists, bankers, anthropologists, artists, sociologists, business leaders, and politicians.
