The Las Vegas Metro Chamber Foundation and 51ԹϺ’s Greenspun College of Urban Affairs recently announced a five-week course this fall for community leaders, particularly those interested in serving in public office or shaping public policy.
The Public Policy Leadership Series (PPL) will educate participants on best practices in public policy development and the functions and structure of government in Nevada and its funding mechanisms. It is designed for individuals who hold (or want to hold) elected office or for those in leadership positions in the public, private and non-profit sectors who want to engage in public policy. The Fall 2016 Series begins Sept. 22. PPL classes meet one evening per week.
The PPL Series will be taught by School of Public Policy and Leadership professors in the Greenspun College of Urban Affairs. The series will present a range of policy topics and leadership development discussions, including:
- The role of the elected official in the policy process
- Communicating with citizens and the media
- The Nevada budgeting process, sources of revenue and funding mechanisms
- Tools for evaluating policies, including resources for policy decision making

A Community Advisory Council is represented by a cross-section of experienced professionals whose insight will guide the development of PPL topics. The 2016 Community Advisory Council includes Bob Brown, Opportunity Village; Tim Cashman, The Cashman Companies; Denice Miller, MGM Resorts International; Paul Moradkhan, Las Vegas Metro Chamber of Commerce; Alisa Nave-Worth, Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck; Bill Noonan, Boyd Gaming; Gail Tuzzolo, Gail Tuzzolo & Associates; and Julie Wilcox, Southern Nevada Water Authority.
