The Performing Arts Center at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ presents Maureen McGovern, "The Stradivarius Voice," in concert at 8 p.m. Dec. 20 as part of the Best of the New York Stage series. The first half of the concert will feature the music of Richard Rodgers and the second half will feature special holiday favorites.
McGovern's career spans recordings, concerts, the Broadway stage, films, television, and radio, with a voice that defies categorization: from a jazzy, warm pop register she glides easily into a crystalline soprano. McGovern possesses one of the "finest vocal instruments in the world," according to the late, great Mel Torme. Winner of both the Oscar and Gold Record Award, the Grammy-nominated McGovern has earned her reputation as one of the truly great singers of our time, or any other.
The Performing Arts Center is proud to partner with the Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in hosting a special reception to honor McGovern for her devotion to animal causes and support of the NSPCA's No-Kill Animal Sanctuary. The reception follows the concert in the lobby of the Judy Bayley Theatre. Reception tickets can be purchased at the PAC Box Office; ask a Box Office representative for details on the special concert-reception ticket package.
Tickets to Maureen McGovern are $25, $35, and $50 and can be purchased at the Performing Arts Center Box Office at 895-ARTS (2787) or by visiting 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏTickets.com. Student rush tickets are $10 each and available one hour prior to each event, based on availability and with valid student I.D. The box office is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Information about all of the season's performances can be found on the Performing Arts Center website.
Founded in 1976, the Performing Arts Center at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ continues to be Southern Nevada's premier performing arts venue. Located on the north end of the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ campus, and served by a recently built parking garage, the PAC hosts a variety of performances each year in three very distinct series? the Charles Vanda Master Series, Best of the New York Stage, and The World Stage. 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ and KLVX Channel 10 are graciously sponsoring the 2003-2004 Season, "A Season of Colors."
