The 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost announced recently that Professor of Life Sciences Peter Starkweather accepted the position of interim dean of the Honors College, effective July 1, 2007.
Starkweather, a 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ faculty member since 1978, is a leading researcher on the evolution of zooplankton and their function within various ecosystems, including the desert. A former chair of the department of biological sciences, Starkweather has also served as associate and interim dean of the College of Sciences.
Starkweather regularly offers life sciences courses through the Honors College and serves as a mentor for the McNair Scholars Institute, a 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ-based program partnering high-achieving, low-income undergraduate students with faculty to conduct research and encourage post-graduate participation.
The Honors College is a selective college within the university offering more than 600 enrolled students advanced, varied undergraduate study in small classroom settings. The Honors College also offers students the chance to work closely with premier faculty in research and internship experiences.
