Contrary to previous published reports, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, is listed this year in U.S. News and World Report's annual "America's Best Colleges 1995 College Guide."
The university's ranking improved this year to 32nd out of 111 Western colleges and universities, according to Robert Morse, director of data analysis for the guide. Last year 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ was ranked 35th of 113 Western colleges and universities.
The ranking appears in the "tier two" section of the Western colleges and universities category in the recently released, comprehensive book version of the college guide. U.S. News and World Report also publishes a shorter magazine version of the college guide.
To arrive at this year's ratings, U.S. News analyzed objective data provided by each university, as well as information gathered from a nationwide survey of more than 2,800 college officials. More than 1,400 accredited schools were ranked.
Variables used to rank each institution included student/faculty ratio, acceptance rate, percentage of faculty with doctorates, graduation rates, and academic reputation.
51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's academic reputation ranking rose to 34 this year; last year it was 39. The academic reputation ranking is based on the evaluations provided by other university presidents, deans, and admissions directors.
