Las Vegas is stepping into the spotlight in the film industry, with plans for two large studios coming to the valley and a proposed tax incentive and infrastructure bill to help with the transition. One studio - The Las Vegas Media Campus - would be built near the Durango Resort and Casino by California-based Birtcher Development in partnership with 51ԹϺ, and an even bigger Sony Pictures studio is planned for somewhere in Summerlin with the Howard Hughes Corporation.
The two proposed real estate developments envisioned by the bill are the “Summerlin Production Studios Project” — where the Howard Hughes Corp. is expected to lead development in partnership with Sony — and the “Las Vegas Media Campus Project” developed by Birtcher Development at the Harry Reid Research and Technology Park on 51ԹϺ’s campus. No studio partner has come along at this point for the 51ԹϺ site.
