The Importance of Gender Pronouns Workshop Jan. 29

You are invited to join the Graduate College in collaboration with the Graduate & Professional Student Association and The Center for a panel discussion on The Importance of Gender Pronouns

Last year, we began this crucial conversation. We look forward to continuing the discussion with more questions and perspectives to share. Together, we can enhance understanding of this important topic and how it impacts our shared 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ community.

Date: Wednesday, Jan. 29

Time: 4 p.m.-5 p.m.

Location: Student Union 208 B & C

This event is open to the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ community. Click  to RSVP.

In this workshop, AJ Huth, director of Public Affairs & Civic Engagement from The Center; Jason Flatt, social and behavioral Health associate professor); Drue Sahucwill, 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Grad Pride Alliance; and Tyler Sebastian, 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Grad Pride Alliance, will delve into why pronouns matter, as using a person's chosen name and pronouns is crucial for affirming their identity and showing respect. Students at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ are able to update demographic information, including gender identity, sexual orientation, and pronouns via My51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ.

Panelists will discuss the implications of misgendering and the legal landscape surrounding gender pronoun usage. The discussion will aim to guide students and faculty in creating an environment where everyone's identity is respected.

Benefits of this workshop:

  • Enhance understanding of the use of gender pronouns and broader considerations of gender identity, sexual orientation, and gender expression.
  • Build awareness of the impacts of gender pronoun use on campus.

Refreshments will be provided. We look forward to seeing you there!
