Reminder: The Great Nevada ShakeOut is Oct. 17 at 10:17 a.m.

Join 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ and the rest of the Nevada System of Higher Education for the Great Nevada ShakeOut on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024, at 10:17 a.m. Earthquake preparedness is critical for everyone, and this drill is an important opportunity for our campus community to practice safety measures.

Nevada is in Earthquake Country; it is the third most seismically active state in the United States. An earthquake can happen anywhere you work, go to school, live, or travel, which is why it's essential to know how to protect yourself.

What to Expect:

At exactly 10:17 a.m., an earthquake alert will be broadcast across campus.
You will be instructed to immediately "Drop, Cover, and Hold On."
How to Stay Safe During the Drill:

DROP to the ground (before the earthquake drops you!).
COVER your head and neck with your arms, and if you can, get under a sturdy desk or table.
HOLD ON until the shaking stops.
If you can’t find shelter nearby, move next to an interior wall, crouch down, and cover your head and neck with your hands and arms.
