Biography

Dr. Brenda Delgado is an assistant professor in residence with the School of Nursing and a board-certified family nurse practitioner. She joined the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ School of Nursing (SON) in 2020 and is a proud first-generation college graduate. With over a decade of hands-on experience in nursing, she brings a blend of expertise and passion to her role as a nurse educator and healthcare provider.

Expertise

Dr. Delgado’s clinical experience as a family nurse practitioner includes internal medicine,  family medicine, urgent care, and telehealth. Her practice has been dedicated to serving primarily underserved communities.

Classes Taught

Dr. Delgado is a dynamic nurse educator who brings her expertise to undergraduate and graduate programs at the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ School of Nursing. The courses she has taught include Nursing Care of the Older Adult, Nursing Care of the Adult Medical Surgical Patient, Nursing Care Across the Lifespan, and Advanced Health Assessment. As the Clinical Faculty Coordinator for different courses, she is always seeking out clinical placement opportunities to provide hands-on experience for her nursing students.

Education Background

Dr. Delgado is not just an alumna of 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ; she's a proud two-time graduate. She earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in nursing, specializing in family nurse practitioner studies. She received her Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Nevada, Reno, focusing on clinical education leadership.

Research or Scholarship

Her research interests include transitional care and health promotion among vulnerable populations. The aim of her DNP project was to develop a pathway for uninsured diabetics discharged from the hospital that would transition them safely and in a timely manner to an outpatient primary care provider. She is passionate about increasing access to healthcare.
